COCO's film choice
For our film choice we've picked Period. End of Sentence.
This Academy Award-winning short documentary from 2018 follows a group of local women in Uttar Pradesh, India as they lead a quiet sexual revolution. Director Rayka Zehtabchi charts the empowerment of the women and girls as they face up to cultural taboos surrounding menstruation, work and economic independence. It's an inspiring watch, and we hope it will prompt lots of discussion around the inequalities women still face globally, the positive progress that has been made, and what needs to happen next!
Period poverty is still an important global issue. A lack of access to adequate menstruation products puts personal health and hygiene at risk, and cultural stigmas and lack of sexual health education prompts many students to miss school when they start having periods.
COCO works with our overseas partners to remove barriers to education and to empower women and girls. Any donations received this International Women's Day will be used to #InvestInWomen to continue this vital work!

Period. End of Sentence is only 26 minutes long, so you could make a night of it by watching another film afterwards! Here are some suggestions for your International Women's Day watch list:
