Connectivity in Kenya

COCO’s Schools for Life model focuses on developing sustainable, quality, education in remote communities. The model incorporates six core elements of Shelter, Power, Food, Water and Sanitation, Sport and Recreation, and Entrepreneurship.

Power is one of the hardest elements to implement in the rural communities that we work with. The advancement of the digital age means that we must be at the forefront of innovation so that no child is left behind.

Though our partners in Kenya have already made a significant amount of progress each has identified a number of future priorities, including:

Solar Power

Thankfully, the sun is plentiful in Kenya! Solar panels will help the community to utilise this sustainable, natural resource.

Installing solar power at each of the schools COCO supports in Kenya is a priority.

This will power lights, allowing students to study at any time of day, and digital devices such as laptops, to better prepare students for further education or the workplace.

Digital Devices

Digital devices enhance the education that children receive through access to online resources and digital skills.

Purchasing digital devices for each of the schools COCO supports in Kenya will help to improve the quality of the education in each rural community.

Students will be able to develop the knowledge and digital skills necessary for seeking employment and further education in an increasingly digital world.

WiFi and Connectivity

Connecting the community with the wider world through wireless internet access.

Providing the infrastructure and data for 12 months of Wi-Fi connectivity at each of the schools COCO supports in Kenya.

This, with the help of digital devices, will increase the accessibility of global sources of knowledge and learning resources for the students and teachers.
